These Terms of Use (“terms”) are an agreement between you and Stolo Systems Inc. (“Stolo,” “we,” “us”) covering the Stolo app, this website, and the Stolo subscription service. By installing or using Stolo, you agree to these terms.
The service
Stolo provides encrypted messaging, GPS sharing, and incident coordination for teams over a self-healing mesh network that runs over radio, Wi-Fi, and cellular links.
Seats and devices
Subscriptions are sold per seat. One seat licenses one device at a time. You can move a seat between devices: deactivating Stolo on a device frees its seat for activation on another device.
Subscriptions and billing
Stolo is an auto-renewing subscription priced at US $4.99 per month per seat. Pricing is identical on both purchase channels.
- App Store purchases. Subscriptions purchased in the app are billed by Apple, and payment is charged to your Apple Account. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in iOS Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions. Refunds for App Store purchases are requested through Apple.
- Web purchases. Seats for teams and organizations are available by web checkout via Stripe — currently arranged by contacting support@stolo.io. Manage your subscription through the billing portal link in your purchase receipt. Cancelling stops future renewals; except where the law requires otherwise, payments already made are non-refundable unless we expressly agree otherwise.
Acceptable use
Use Stolo only for lawful purposes. Do not use it to interfere with the service or with others' use of it, and do not attempt to circumvent license enforcement.
If you operate Stolo with LoRa or other radio hardware, you are responsible for complying with the radio-spectrum rules that apply where you operate — including permitted frequencies, power limits, duty cycles, and any licensing requirements.
Not a substitute for emergency services
Stolo is not a substitute for emergency services. Stolo does not contact 911, 112, or any other public emergency service. Delivery over a mesh network depends on radio conditions, terrain, device placement, and battery, and delivery of any message is not guaranteed. Never rely on Stolo as your only means of requesting emergency assistance; when life or property is at risk, use official emergency channels first.
Warranty disclaimer
We build Stolo for harsh environments, but no communications system is infallible, and we cannot promise the service will always be available or error-free.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STOLO IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STOLO SYSTEMS INC. WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES — INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR COMMUNICATIONS — AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limitations, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you.
Termination
You can stop using Stolo at any time by cancelling your subscription through the channel where you bought it. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms; if we do, we may deactivate the associated seats.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here and update the effective date at the top of this page; continuing to use Stolo after a change means you accept the updated terms.
